It's been a great first week (despite my last post). In one week and one day, I've lost 6 pounds and 6 ounces. While I know that it's mostly water and I can't safely and healthfully keep up this pace, it is still TOTALLY awesome. Don't worry, I didn't break my arm patting myself on the back.
This week's focus is healthy snacking - and less of it in general. In another ground-breaking moment (for me), I avoided the siren call of the king size Twix and opted for a California roll instead. And it was even the healthy version of it - no rice, extra veggies, still pretty good. It was mostly satisfying - for not being chocolate. In a weird coincidence, every woman (besides me) in the grocery store was a size 4 or less. This considerably helped my motivation!

Bad days are worse
So you know the kind of day that starts out with your kids getting up multiple times the night before, then at the store an entire bottle of fabric softener breaks open upon bagging and slowly leaks through your cart full of groceries and then your dog randomly jumps into one of the kids' car seats and PEES in it and you come home and realize your period just started - nearly a week early. You know that kind of day? I had that kind of day. Last year, I would have curled up on the couch and eaten my weight in chocolate.
No more.
Instead, I pulled myself up by my muffin top and made myself some of this cleansing drink suggested by Kim Lyons.
8 oz. water
1 slice grapefruit
1 slice tangerine
1/2 cucumber, sliced
2 spearmint leaves
The recipe is pretty simple - but I still couldn't completely follow it as the store was out of tangerines and I am pretty sure they don't carry spearmint leaves, like, ever. Also, I lost my pitcher - how that happened, I have no idea. Instead, I rounded up my water bottle collection and started chopping. I put about 2 servings of the cucumber, grapefruit, and tangelo (my tangerine stand-in) in each bottle. I filled them up with water and put them in the fridge. I drank one this evening and it was pretty tasty! I decided to refill just the water and see how that went - still good! And I did another refill and let it marinade for an couple hours - still tastes pretty fresh and cucumber-y! So, three run throughs per set of ingredients - not bad. I know just drinking the water involved will be good for me, but I am hoping the extra stuff will help make some extra magic!!

Let's do this thing
I can be late or I can be early, but never right on time. When it comes to my resolutions for 2013, I'm a little late. In the scheme of the year, 8 days ain't bad. Here's the deal. I have lots of resolutions: to be nicer, listen more, be patient, use less sarcasm, yadda yadda yadda. But, those are hard to measure. Here's what's easy to measure - inches and pounds. Here's my inches:
And here's my pounds - 194.9 lbs as of January 7. This is how much I weighed at 36 weeks pregnant with my daughter. Yikes.
To stay motivated, my family and I (or parts of my family - my little brothers aren't in on it, nor are all the in-laws) have started an email and text network. My sister thought of doing weekly focus points to sort of keep it from being all so overwhelming. This week's focus: exercise more, hopefully three times a week. I am getting this post written a little late, but there are still 4 days in the week, so you can still do it!
If you want to follow along, I will be posting here as often as I can. I will answer all comments - promise! So, if you need a little inspiration on your journey to a smaller version of yourself, join the fun and get skinny(er).
